Hamish has spent most of his life figuring out what it means to be present.  At Northwestern, he spent much of his artistic time with Gail Shapiro, where he was taught to relentlessly pursue the truth. In fall of 2023, Hamish was one of thirteen actors selected for Northwestern’s New York Acting Showcase.

Poetry in Voice

In 2018, Hamish was the first-place national winner of Poetry in Voice, a poetry recitation contest for high school students. He presented three poems at the finals, which were held at the University of Toronto. He was later invited to recite one of them (“Illegalese: Floodgate Dub”) at the globally-coveted Griffin Poetry Prize ceremony later that year.

"Honestly, this is my favourite performance by anyone else of any of my poems."

— Wayde Compton ("Illegalese: Floodgate Dub" poet)

"Hamish Marissen-Clark, a grade 11 student from Vancouver, did a mind-blowing recitation of "Illegalese: Floodgate Dub". Hamish’s recitation was unsettling in the very best way, showcased the text in a different way. 'He transformed the rhythms of protest to the rhythm of the boardroom,' said my seatmate. Beautiful and chilling.
